Celexa

Celexa Attorney

Celexa (Citalopram Hydrobromide) is a prescription drug used to treat major depression.

Celexa is a newer antidepressant, which belongs to the SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) group. Other drugs in that group include Paxil, Zoloft and Prozac. Although there have not been as many reports of violent or suicidal behavior associated with this drug, if you discontinue Celexa, you may suffer similar side effects to those seen with other SSRI's. Due to the fact that Celexa leaves the body more gradually, the side effects of discontinuing this medication appear to be less severe than what is seen with other SSRI's, although they may develop over a longer period of time.

Women who are pregnant are advised to consult with your doctors and not to simply stop the medicine. The sudden stop of antidepressant medication may cause negative withdrawal effects.

Celexa has been found to cause pulmonary hypertension in newborn babies. Pulmonary hypertension (PH) or pulmonary artery hypertension (PAH) is an increase in blood pressure in the pulmonary artery or lung. PH or PAH can result in a decreased exercise tolerance and right-sided heart failure.

Side effects of all SSRI's can include the following:

  • Agitation and anxiety
  • Worsening of depression
  • Violent or suicidal behavior
  • Aggressive and impulsive behavior
  • Headache
  • Confusion and memory problems
  • Tremor
  • Sweating
  • Irritability
  • Dizziness
  • Coordination problems
  • Shock like sensations, abnormal nerve sensations
  • Nausea and anorexia
  • Lethargy

We are currently evaluating cases where Celexa may have led to suicide or violent behavior. If you or your loved one has been injured as a result of taking Celexa, you may have a valid claim. Call Cellino & Barnes now at 1-800-621-2020 or contact us.
