Pradaxa
The blood thinner - Pradaxa - which is used to prevent strokes in patients with irregular heart beat has come under scrutiny. In a study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, patients taking the new anti-clotting drug Pradaxa have a 33% higher risk of heart attack or severe symptoms of heart disease than do patients taking warfarin. Pradaxa is the brand name for the drug DABIGATRAN.
This study was based on results from multiple clinical trials.
"Anytime the risk of a heart attack or an acute coronary syndrome is increased due to the medication, in this case Pradaxa, it is of concern to the public" states Steve Barnes. "There already have been safety warnings issued overseas."
