Cryptosporidium

You can become infected with Cryptosporidium by touching anything that has come in contact with contaminated feces.

People have contracted cryptosporidium in the following ways:

  • Swallowing or putting something contaminated in your mouth
  • Drinking contaminated water
  • Swimming and ultimately swallowing contaminated water
  • Eating uncooked contaminated food
  • Touching a contaminated surface and then putting your fingers in your mouth

In most healthy people, a cryptosporidium infection produces an attack of watery diarrhea and the infection usually goes away within a week or two. However, if you have a weak immune system, without proper treatment, it can be life-threatening.

Additional signs and symptoms include the following and may last for up to two weeks, although they may come and go:

  • Watery diarrhea
  • Dehydration
  • Weight loss
  • Stomach cramps or pain
  • Fever
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting

If you or a loved one has contracted Cryptosporidium, please contact our personal injury attorneys today.
