Hepatitis A
Hepatitis A is a contagious disease that spreads from person-to-person. It is spread through fecal-oral contact, generally from person-to-person or from contaminated food or water. Contaminated food is the most common and occurs when an infected person is responsible for preparing or cooking the food.
Hepatitis A can also be spread among family members, roommates, through sexual contact, drinking contaminated water, raw or undercooked fruits and vegetables, shellfish, and from people sharing illegal drugs.
Symptoms of Hepatitis A usually develop between 2 and 6 weeks after infection. The symptoms are usually not too severe and go away on their own, over time. The most common symptoms are as follows:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Low-grade fever
- Loss of appetite
- Rash
- Fatigue
- Jaundice
- Urine is dark brown color
- Pain in area of liver
