E. Coli Outbreak - Taco Bell

E. Coli Outbreak – Taco Bell Restaurants

As December 11, 2006, 64 people have been affected by the E. coli outbreak associated with Taco Bell.  E. coli 0157 has been reported in 5 states, including: New Jersey (28), New York (22), Pennsylvania (11), Delaware (2), and South Carolina (1).

Of the 64 people who became ill, 50 were hospitalized and 8 developed a type of kidney failure called hemolytic-uremic syndrome (HUS). A small portion of people with HUS have immediate complications with lifelong consequences, including blindness, paralysis, persistent kidney failure, and side effects associated with having part of their bowel removed. Some people with HUS have mild abnormalities in kidney function for many years.

Taco Bell pulled all green onions from their restaurants as a precaution, as preliminary tests found three samples of green onions to have a dangerous strain of the bacterium.

E. coli O157 causes diarrhea that is often bloody and accompanied by severe abdominal cramps.  Fever is usually mild or absent.  If you have experienced these symptoms after eating at a Taco Bell in one of the states mentioned, we recommend you seek medical attention immediately.

If you or a loved one has suffered an injury due to E. coli,  please call Cellino & Barnes at 1–800-483-2050 or contact us by clicking on an E. Coli Injury Attorney.
