Car Accident

Summary of "Car Accident"

Michael Lovecchio talks about a client he helped who suffered injuries in a car accident.

Car Accident Case –Transcript

The other driver, the defendant, was traveling in excess of sixty five miles per hour and rear-ended our client who was completely stopped at a red light. And after further investigation, it turned out that the defendant driver was on a cell phone, wasn’t paying attention, and as a result, of his negligence caused this collision.

My client went through the normal process of getting some medical treatment. She had a fractured lower vertebrae in her body fractured, and she went to an orthopedic doctor who told her that you’re a young girl; the last thing I would ever do is recommend a surgery on such a young person, but the fragments of your disc are actually impinging on your nerve roots and this is something that needs to be taken care of operatively and they performed the surgery.

For a twenty one year old girl to go through a two or three level lower lumbar fusion, which is a significant injury, it really turned her life upside down. We really had to prepare this for trial.

What we were looking for required numerous help from various professionals across the country. We had to retain experts, an economist to tell us how much her lost wages will cost, how much she is losing in lost wages into the future. We had to hire a life care specialist to explain to a jury how much she is going to have to spend in terms of medical prescriptions, orthopedic testing, future surgeries, diagnostic tests, like x-rays and MRIs. All this adds up and this is all the responsibility of our client unless we get the defendant to reimburse her for that.

The defendants realized that they were wrong and the defendant caused the accident, and as a result, caused the injuries, and they provided our client with a financial settlement that didn’t make her any better, didn’t make her back any better, but at least put her in a position where she could take care of herself financially, and that she could pay for her medical bills into the future.
