What to do if you're in a Car Accident - Transcript
If you are in a
car accident, the first thing to do is to get help for anyone who may be injured. Next, call the police. The police report is an important document that is a snapshot of the information available shortly after the accident. You will also want to gather any names and phone numbers of witnesses. Try to get home and cell phone numbers if possible. Also, write down the plate number of the vehicle that the witness was driving. This will help with our investigation of the accident.
An important thing to remember when you are in a
car accident, do not make any statements except to the police officer at the scene. If possible, write down any statements that the other driver may have said such as “I’m sorry”, “it was my fault” or “I didn’t see you”. Statements like these can be important if there is a question about who is responsible for the accident. We will advise you of the best way to handle the phone calls from the insurance companies. It is important that you contact us as soon as possible following an accident.
Our investigators may immediately evaluate the accident scene before any evidence is destroyed. To make things easier for you, we have provided a form that you can print to keep in your glove box. Just click on the glove box icon and print it. In the event you are ever in an accident, just complete the information on the form. This will help you to make sure that you obtain the information necessary.
