Sanitation Truck Leaves Scene After Hitting 67-Year-Old
Police say they’re searching for a truck driver they say hit and killed Deborah Mutell, 67, of Brooklyn, then drove away.
Accident investigators were at the intersection of 86th Street and Bay Parkway just after 4 a.m. Thursday morning. According to NYPD, Deborah Mutell was struck and dragged by a private sanitation truck.
The investigations unit spent hours reviewing video taken from nearby security cameras in order to help identify the hit-and-run vehicle.
MTA Bus Involved in Woman’s Death
Just hours after Deborah Mutell was struck and killed by a sanitation truck, another woman was hit by an MTA bus near Flatbush and Flatands avenues in Brooklyn.
The MTA said the accident involved the B-41 bus, which remained at the scene of the accident. Police said the woman who was killed had missed her stop, and the bus driver tried to pull over to let her off.
Investigators said that the woman then forced the doors of the bus open while the vehicle was moving. As a result, she fell out of the bus, hit a pole, and was run over by the rear wheels.
The victim was not identified and police said the incident remains under investigation.

OXFORD, N.Y. – A Chenango County woman was killed in a three-vehicle pile-up on Route 12 in the Town of Oxford Wednesday morning.
Kathryn Frear, of Greene, NY, was killed in the Chenango County accident. Sheriff’s deputies said Kathryn Frear was driving a passenger car when it was sandwiched between two trucks.
What Happened in Oxford Pile-Up
According to first responders, a tractor-trailer was traveling south on Route 12, and was slowing down to make a turn onto a side road. Kathryn Frear was also slowing down behind the big rig as the tractor-trailer turned.

NEW YORK – A 68-year-old woman, a 51-year-old man, and a 10-year-old boy were struck and killed by large vehicles in three separate accidents on Tuesday, police said. Just eight days into the new year, five pedestrians have been run down on city streets.
Judith Wieder, 68, was struck by a concrete mixing truck, and Srijan Panthi, 10, was run over by a city sanitation truck. The third accident, which involved a city bus, killed an unnamed 51-year-old man.
Concrete Mixing Truck Accident
Police say Judith Wieder was crossing New Utrecht Avenue near 49th Street in Brooklyn when she was hit by a concrete mixing truck. Police said they obtained video from a bystander that shows Judith Wider crossing the street with a walking cane in hand as the truck moved forward. Judith Wieder was pronounced dead at the scene.
City records show the truck is operated by the concrete supplier, Ferrara Bros., and police said the driver remained on-scene for questioning.
Residents near New Utrecht Ave and 49th Street told the Times that the three-way intersection is inherently dangerous, and traffic is often chaotic.
Sanitation Truck Accident in Corona, Queens
Just hours before Judith Wieder was struck by a concrete mixing truck, police say a city sanitation truck hit and killed Srijan Panthi, 10, and severely injured his mother, Mina Panthi on their way to the boy’s school.
Accident investigators said the sanitation truck was pulling out of a driveway onto 57th Avenue near 97th Street when the accident happened, claiming the life of Srijan Panthi. Investigators said the driver of the sanitation truck remained on-scene.
A spokesperson for the Sanitation Department told reporters that the driver was placed on “modified duty,” and was stripped of driving responsibilities as they await the results of the investigation.

WESTMORELAND COUNTY, PA – At least five people were killed on the Pennsylvania Turnpike Sunday morning in Mount Pleasant Twp. after multiple vehicles, including a tour bus, two tractor-trailers and a passenger vehicle were involved in a crash.
A spokesperson for the Pennsylvania Turnpike said about 60 people in total were taken to area hospitals.
Authorities closed down the Turnpike in both directions between the New Stanton exit and the Breezewood exit, 40 miles outside of Pittsburgh while police investigate.
What Caused The Tour Bus And Tractor Trailers to Crash?
According to Pennsylvania State Police, a tour bus was navigating a downhill curve on the roadway when it went off the road and hit an embankment. Two tractor-trailers cruising behind the bus also crashed into it.
National Transportation Safety Board investigators were also spotted at the scene of the accident.
Police said the tour bus was traveling from Rockaway, New Jersey to Cincinnati, Ohio.
About 60 People Injured
Health officials confirmed that 18 patients, including many children, were taken to UPMC Somerset Hospital, and 25 others who were injured in the crash were taken to Frick Hospital in Mount Pleasant.
Two were transported to trauma centers.
What To Do When You’re Involved In A Bus Crash Or Truck Crash
A Pennsylvania bus accident lawyer says a legal investigation needs to be initiated to help the victims and their families get closure, and uncover exactly what happened to cause such a devastating accident.
An independent investigation can help victims of the crash on the Pennsylvania Turnpike get compensation for their injuries after they file a personal injury claim. Some key pieces of evidence an independent investigation can help uncover include:
Tractor-Trailer driving logs
Maintenance records for the trucks involved
Bus maintenance records
Potential safety violations
Some or many of these factors might’ve played a role in Sunday’s Pennsylvania Turnpike accident in Westmoreland County.
It’s important for investigators to look at every possible cause of this accident, as these factors can be used as evidence that can help victims of a truck accident in Pennsylvania get significant compensation for their injuries.
In many cases, a personal injury settlement or verdict can help Pennsylvania bus accident victims get financial compensation for many of the costs associated with the collision. Some of these costs can include:
Ambulance and First Responder costs
Pain and suffering
A Pennsylvania bus accident lawyer says a successful personal injury claim could also help facilitate meaningful changes that can improve bus safety, and overall road safety on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, which could help prevent similar accidents in the future.
