Valsartan | Blood Pressure Medication Recall
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recalled a number of prescription blood pressure medications because they may cause cancer. As a result, several companies have pulled medicines containing Valsartan off pharmacy shelves.
Valsartan is a generic drug used to treat high blood pressure. Officials with the FDA discovered an impurity in the drug, N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), which is listed as a probably human carcinogen (it’s a substance that could cause cancer).
What Valsartan Drugs Have Been Recalled?
The July 2018 recall of blood pressure medications included the following medicines:
|Valsartan/Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ)||Solco Healthcare|
|Valsartan/Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ)||Teva Pharmaceuticals|
Potential Valsartan side-effects are not limited to cancer. Other serious side effects may include swelling, skin rash, fainting, and chest pain.
